I just remembered, I forgot to post for last week’s FTF. Sigh. I think I’m suffering from a really fearful disease called aging or perhaps its just a temporary breakdown service? Whatever it is, I’m back and on the roll.

For Pinoys, noodles usually mean cooked stir-fried {think pancit canton} or cooked the Lucky Me way {lolz}. It was only when I began to travel about that I realized that noodles can be cooked in a whole lot of other ways and we have a lot to try and catch up on. Here’s one of my all-time favorite Cambodian street-take out food – Banh Hoi Cold Noodles {I forgot the name in Khmer, will ask hubby later hehe}.

Khmers and the Vietnamese are very similar in cooking their noodles and I specially like how they make cold noodles. Yummy, healthy, super cheap, and yummy again.  I usually buy this from the market. Sure, its available in restos, but nothing beats the taste of the one from the market {bakit kaya?}. And specially if you want a quick bite. I was shopping for food yesterday when I passed by a stall selling this. You can choose what kind of noodles you prefer. The banh hoi super tiny ones like in the photo or the big fat ones that looks like spaghetti. I,  of course, picked the weeny ones hoping it won’t add to my weight. I know that’s highly illogical, but who says I’m logical?

Anyway, I usually add crispy taro rolls, lots of veggies like lettuce, cucumber, carrots, spring onions and herbs {its all under the noodles}, you can also choose to add meat but in my case since I have the taro rolls, I skipped it, then they’ll add shredded dried shrimps and ground peanuts. They will also give you a pack of sweet and sour sauce for topping.

Here’s what the usual Khmer take out box aka ‘the styro’ looks like. I also have to mention, that Khmers have an unusual affinity with rubber bands. If you live here and frequent the markets, they you’ll be bound to collect a lot of rubber bands. Lol! They use it to tie everything, including tying the plastic holding the sauce.

And here’s my yummy 4000 Riels {$1} take-home, it should be a lot cheaper if you don’t add taro rolls.
