Food Trip Friday: Nature and Sea

Nope I didn’t hightail it to the beach. Although I wish I could go run off and stay somewhere with sea and sand, with faint sounds of crickets and drum, for the rest of the summer. I just had to content myself with some food from Nature and Sea.

Phnom Penh is awesome in a way that you can find really fabulous food places in unassuming corners. This one, I didn’t even know it existed until my friend the Royal Queen of Wishful Shriking decided to bring me there.

Nature & Sea Restaurant Phnom Penh

It’s located on a roof top, so the place has a breezy, casual vibe albeit hard to find. But in case this makes you crave for some fish and yummy goodness, Nature and Sea is located in St. 278 near corner of St. 51, right across Wat Langka.

My verdict? One of the best fish and chips I had here in Phnom Penh. The salad was very good aswell. We specially loved the dressing. This place is definitely worth going back to.

Food Trip Friday: Beirut Restaurant

I love Middle Eastern food. It’s colorful and very very tasty. It also fascinates me that their cuisine is made up of mostly vegetables + spices and yet they come up with really gorgeous and delicious spread. Perhaps I’m an easy person to please, but you know, growing up in the Filipino food culture where vegetables are almost only used in stir fried dishes or cooked in coconut milk, I find the idea that you can turn ‘just vegetables’ into mains extra fascinating.

Anyway, the craving for mid-East food came again so my friend.. the Royal Queen of Wishful Shrinking and I went to Beirut, a  Lebanese halal restaurant along Sisowath Quay here in Phnom Penh. And we proceeded to stuff ourselves full with these…

Beirut Lebanese Restaurant Phnom Penh

The menu is extensive so we were really at a loss what to order, there were just too many things we wanted to eat. So we went with the Mezze Set – Classic.

And I just had to get myself a wrap. This one’s the Beirut Wrap.

The resto also has a nice, eclectic vibe. The staff were great as well. This is definitely our fave for authentic Lebanese fare here in Phnom Penh.

And I just had to add this here. I so love their mint tea..

Food Trip Friday: Delicious Mexican @ Viva

A long overdue post. I already forgot when we actually went there and I went back a couple of times already. I really must be the laziest blogger around. Haha. My only excuse is that I’m just so busy these past few weeks. Trip planning, doing errands, shopping for Christmas. Sigh. It does tend to be hectic specially if your daughter asks you for a cooking toy set that can be bought only in Japan, or your brother keeps hinting he wants a personalized soccer ball for Christmas..

But I’m veering totally off  the point. Today’s food trip feature is Mexican food at Viva. Located along Sisowath Quay, Phnom Penh. It’s right across Bopha Titanic Restaurant and very near Phnom Penh night market. Viva, I think is one of your best shots at delicious and affordable Mexican fare here in Phnom Penh.

Food Trip Friday: Ayotaya Thai Restaurant – Phnom Penh

One of the best things about hanging out in Twitter? Nah, not the gossip!! But that is a good incentive. But for me, I get to find little gems, sometimes links to awesome little known websites, at times places, hotels and mostly restaurants. Just like this one, Ayotaya Thai Restaurant here in Phnom Penh recommended by @HungryGoWhereKH.

I love good Thai food so when I heard about this little restaurant, I asked tempted the Queen of Wishful Shrinking to join me on a Thai food lunch. And were just so glad we did. I think we just found our next ‘regular’ place for Thai food.

The place is small, with a very ‘canteen’ like vibe. But what it lacks in ambiance,it makes up for with an extensive Thai food menu, very affordable prices, and of course, its delicious!

The moment we opened the menu, we started berating ourselves for eating a hearty breakfast at a nearby cafe. Since we were both full, we ordered only two dishes Spicy Chicken Laab with Veggies, and Thai Red Curry with Prawns & Pineapples.

Chicken Laab @ Ayotaya Thai Restaurant Phnom Penh

Fiery Chicken Laab. This one’s okay. I’ve tasted better versions, but that’s not saying this isn’t delicious. It was. I only wish for more veggies. Also this one’s not for the un-initiated to Thai food. To say that it’s fiery would be an understatement.

Red Curry @ Ayotaya Thai Restaurant Phnom Penh

Really, really, really good. I’m quite picky when it comes to curries and anything with coconut milk, afterall I grew up in a place where we eat something with coconut milk daily. But this one…It’s just GOOD. The pineapple lends a different taste and texture to it, a little bit different from your standard SEA curries. And we ended up slurping the soup to the last drop.

Were definitely going back there and sample more. The little we had just made us crave for more. Ayotaya is located along St. 302 in Boeng Keng Kang area. Its a quiet street and easy to find. Lunch time can get pretty crowded. I also just realized, I forgot to take photos of the restaurant interior. Ha! What kind of blogger am I? I was too busy anticipating the food, I totally forgot.

Sigh. This is really one of the best things about Phnom Penh. Affordable, delicious food. No wonder I’m always trying to diet, always trying to make good my promise to exercise daily, get yoga products, and balance the constant food tripping. And it’s a losing battle. Hahahaha.

Food Trip Friday: Chicken Parmigiana @ Secret Recipe

Secret Recipe is fast becoming my lunchtime hangout. I do LOVE cheesecakes.  I also love their Curry LaksaAnd the several times I’ve been there that’s all I ate, laksa, cheesecake, repeat. Hahaha!

So a week ago after a busy day going curtain rods shopping, we dropped by Secret Recipe in Sovanna Mall and I thought perhaps its time I lie low on my laksa obsession and try out their other offerings. Since I was seriously hungry I picked something a bit substantial. At least based on the photo.

I picked Chicken Parmigiana.

Looks appetizing right? The serving is huge. I had a hard time finishing it all. It was actually very tasty but I thought it was a bit dry and tough. I like the fried potatoes and salad on the side.  And love this drink. I forgot what it is already.

Service was also getting better at least. The crew were attentive but thankfully didn’t hover over me while I was eating, like last time. Hahaha!

Food Trip Friday: Les Lacs Resort Restaurant

Oh noes! This post has been in my drafts folder since last week but I completely forgot to upload it here. During the weekend, hubby gave me a run around, with a lot of errands. He’s not yet here in Phnom Penh, so what choice do I have?  Sigh. I was all over the city taking care of bills, going to markets, and I still had to search for mens leather briefcase for him. Sometimes I do wonder why I’m that nice.  Hahaha! But then again, he always do things I ask him to do, well, most of it anyway. So we’re even.

So back to my food trip post. I wrote about loving going to Les Lacs Fleuris Resort, for weekends. It’s a great place really to relax, be away from the city, and I specially like going there when I have this crazy need to see a lot of greens. And I do love love love their restaurant. See, I rarely use a lot of ‘love’ when describing a restaurant. But they have really good Khmer food at very affordable prices. Nothing really beats lounging around the pool and eating good food.

On our last visit, here’s what we had.

Beef Koh Kor with Baguette

Beef Koh Kor with Nom Pang (Spicy Beef Soup with French Baguette) – this one is very good, seriously good. My husband is a picky eater, specially when it comes to Khmer food. And I can’t fault him if he is hard to please since his mom is an awesome cook. But this one passed his picky taste with flying colors. In fact, he said this is one of the best he had.

Khmer Seafood and Herbs Fresh Salad

Seafood and Herbs Fresh Salad – my dish. Also very tasty and everything was obviously very fresh. I was actually taken aback when I saw the huge serving. All that for less than $4.

Steak with Pasta

Steak with White Cream Pasta – kiddo’s order. She loved it. Specially the steak. Tender, juicy and very tasty.

Khmer Iced Coffee

And of course, I can’t leave without having my Khmer Iced Coffee. They also have a slew of healthy smoothies. The one in the background is their Beet, Ginger and Apple combo.
