Food Trip Friday #41: Laksa

A steaming bowl of Laksa! This is one of my favorite Malay dish. It was Hi-ace who introduced me to laksa. Its his fave but he prefers the Asam Laksa, sour fish variety. As for me, I lurve curry laksa! This dish is very popular in Malaysia and Singapore. Thankfully, we don’t have to go far to satisfy our cravings for this. There are lots of Malay and Singaporean cuisine oriented restaurants here in Phnom Penh. And one of our favorite place is The Singapore Kitchen. Affordable and super yummy Malay food.

Dressing Up!

Not myself. But my blog. I’m one of those persons who just can’t help but fidget around. Now I’ve taken to updating my blog’s templates and today is Pinaywifespeaks turn hehe.. I had been Elegant Themes long time subscriber since way before they were very affordable and so I got a cheap rate for fabulous looking themes. They recently released a theme called Memoir and I can’t just get over how awesome it looks.

My favorite feature: changeable photo backgrounds. Aside from color choices available on the template, the changeable background can make you change the total look and feel of your blog by just uploading a photo of your choice. Neat! So I’ve been spending the better part of the day tweaking patterns on Photoshop for my background selection.

I decided to go for elegant {brocade} looks, but I also made one vintage -handwritten background and another coolly casual lilac dots background. I saved this all on my media library and I could easily change it whenever I feel like it. Right now I’m using the deep purple brocade backdrop..

How do you like it?

Food Trip Friday #40: Grilled Pork Spare Ribs

Yay! I’m on my 40th FTF Entry and this my friends is a milestone. Hahaha I’m always too busy and preoccupied to keep up with meme but I’m glad to say I’ve been posting FTF entries with a bit of regularity. In fact I always look forward to it. I know I missed a few weeks and some I was late but still, yay! I think I could be consistent. And it just shows my affinity towards………FOOD!

Anyway, for this week I have Grilled Pork Spare Ribs. It was my sister’s birthday last week and she specially requested this. Went to the market early so we could have choice rib cuts. Then I marinated it more than 12 hours in soy sauce, pepper, squeezed orange juice, salt and sugar and peanut butter. When I grill I don’t like it burned on the outside but raw on the inside, so I usually bring it to boil beforehand using the marinade. When its cooked, its time to grill!

While grilling and almost cooked, I brushed a mix of oyster sauce, pepper and fresh orange juice on all sides. My Khmer niece and nephew said its super yummy, and said Pinoy style barbecue is so delicious. Hehe at lumaki naman ears ko lol! Anyway, it tasted so good with the red wine, I almost downed one bottle..

A Big Ooops…

I know my blog zoned out for the past 24 hrs. My mistake really. I do apologize if you dropped by earlier and found the site routed to a dummy page. Again, for two years in a row already, I forgot to renew my domain.  It was due to expire yesterday and I was also out the whole day. The moment I got home I did not check the site, I was busy with other work.

It was only late this morning when I turned on Mozilla Thunderbird so I could check my emails and I can’t access the admin email for this blog. Lol! That’s when I realized I haven’t renewed yet. Maybe I should peg this down on the calendar already.

Anyway, I headed over to Hostgator domain registrant to renew. But I think the universe was conspiring against me. I tried paying with credit cards, a debit card but I keep getting an error. So I raised the red flag and asked for some help from their tech support and they requested me to submit a ticket so they could just arrange for me to make the payment via Paypal.

Now that’s what I love about Hostgator, fast efficient service. And they would really bend backwards to accommodate my request. I can’t speak for others but my personal experience with this company is beyond excellent. So in an hour or so I was able to process the renewal. Normally, the registrant don’t accept other forms of payment except credit or debit card. But if this won’t work or you are unable to process using said payment methods, simply contact their sales dept and they’ll issue and invoice so you can pay directly via Paypal.

Thanks Hostgator Support for again giving me the best service.

There’s Something I Want…

Posted by on Feb 19, 2011 in Blogging and Web | 1 comment

I’m busy. It’s a good thing, when I’m busy that means moolah, my mind is always on a creative overdrive, I don’t have time to pester hubby to go somewhere or what and that leaves him with sometime to on his textbook project too. I’m also very even tempered when I have a lot of work to do. I have two problems though, when I’m in working-creative mood. One, I have a hard time sleeping. Somebody suggested perhaps I might want to use natural sleeping pills but I’m scared coz I don’t want to be dependent on that. My mind is simply over active so sometimes, I have to work hard to lull myself to sleep.

And the second problem, when I’m too busy, I tend to skip out on my exercise routine. Once I start working on something it’s really hard to peel me off the project. Coz once I venture off to other thing, I lose my original train of thought and I hate losing ideas. So the exercising takes the back seat but I don’t want to be like this. I was already on track last December about my weight loss goals and now I feel like I’m slowly falling off. Haaaaaaaa! I feel like screaming for solution. Hubby suggests buying an exercise machine and installing it right next to my working desk. Hmmm. An idea worth considering.

But wait, perhaps something like this is better?

Whatchathink? Lol!

And So He Blogs…

Posted by on Feb 19, 2011 in Blogging and Web, Random Thoughts | 1 comment

I’m talking about the hubby. He’s ever supportive about my blogging activities, but he’s not really much into it. Although I know he reads my posts regularly hahaha. Lately though, he’s been bugging me to teach him how to blog. And he has a very specific niche in mind. Lol! And this ‘blogging student’ is very meticulous, he makes me squirm.

Anyway, he already has his own domain which he uses only for his email and as place for his files/lessons for his students to download. We haven’t really developed it coz I thought he didn’t have any interest nor the time to maintain it. But now I guess he’s been seeing the merits and the passive income that blogging brings. He says, its cool even if I stop blogging for a week, a month I’m still earning passively. Also, he says its one way for him to polish his English writing.  So now he wants to get into it.

So what does he want to write about? His field is education and I can’t imagine him blogging about stuff like hydroxycut reviews, so I assumed he wanted to talk about studies, study abroad, scholarships. He was interested in this niche initially but renege at the last minute coz it’ll take too much time in research and writing. So I suggested something a little more personal, why not write about your travels and the insights he gains from them. He travels frequently because of work and he also has tons of photos from various places he has been to so they’ll make a great blogging material.

For now, his blog is up but still empty, I also did the header and I’m envious, I wish its my blog lol! It’s running on wordpress and I picked out the Misty Look theme. I’d be helping him out with the technical end and also some post editing. You can check it out here.
