Air Asia Promo Fares till January 17, 2011

Posted by on Jan 11, 2011 in Cambodia, News and Trivia, Travel | 2 comments

Okay, hold the forks people. Lol! I’ve been getting a couple of emails the past few weeks about air fare promos especially about Air Asia promos. When I also checked my site traffic, it was surprising to discover that a lot of people come to this blog in search of Air Asia fare promos.

I haven’t really been posting about promos much because (1) hahaha I always forget, and (2) I figured it’ll be much easier to get info directly from the airlines site and (3) signing up for seat promo alerts is just easy and free. But if its the request of readers, then I’ll be posting said fare promo updates again.

It’s hardly surprising now that I think about it coz Air Asia has a lot of flights from Phnom Penh now. In fact, with its cheap and frequent flights to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur, I feel like visiting Phnom Penh is much easier.

Wii Are Busy…

Posted by on Jan 9, 2011 in Lifestyle + More, Living in Phnom Penh | 1 comment

I’m not exactly in tip top shape right now so forgive the sporadic posting. I had been really hit with an asthma attack. Lol! I blame it with my mad dash to clean the house before new years, and also its really chilly here in Phnom Penh the past few weeks compounded by the ever present dust. So I had to confine myself to the house for the time being.

So what had I been doing? Thank God for photoshop. I’ve been doodling, learning and trying to master the use of graphic tablet in illustration. We’ve also been crazy about playing wii games. Chinks and Hi-ace playing, me mostly watching and screaming at them hahaha. I want to play though at times I have hard time breathing so I’m giving the wii a rest.

Guess who is now so into playing with it? Hi-ace!! When he got it, it was like he has no interest and he has just been watching me and Chinks play. Then last week I goaded him into trying to play bowling. Lol! For a first timer, he was good. Really good. Then he tried boxing and now there’s no turning back.

You can’t talk to him when he is wii-ing. Hahaha I even took a video of him playing boxing but I dare not post it here he might just bar me from blogging forevah. It was that funny! He says he didn’t realize boxing is so much fun and he gets to exercise. Ssssh, the next thing he’d be asking me to get him some wrestling equipment!

Anyway, since were enjoying it, I’ve been looking for new games in malls here. LOL! Apparently all wii games here in Phnom Penh are the pirated variety. Which I could not play on my console because I either have to crack open it and insert the mod chip therefore voiding the warranty and also I would not be able to update it because that would risk ‘bricking’ the console. The tech guy in the wii shops here said, that all wii’s here in PP they open up to insert a chip so they could play the copied game, and if I want to I could just bring my console and have it done, lol but they won’t guarantee that it won’t be bricked eventually.

I could also do a soft mod on it but I’m kinda wary about doing that so I’ll probably be looking for some original games somewhere else. It’ll be costly :( but let’s indulge once in a while.

Food Trip Friday 34: Korean BBQ and Soup

Food Trip Friday Meme

We went food tripping again. I mean, the Peluka Sisters of Phnom Penh went on a ‘discover another yummy restaurant’ mode. We all met last Wednesday for our usual coffee, girl talk, lunch and shopping weekly routine. When it was time for lunch, well we decided on trying out the Korean BBQ and Soup restaurant located at the 4th floor of Sovanna Mall, Phnom Penh.

Food Trip Friday 34: Korean BBQ and Soup

Ordering the food was pretty straightforward. Everything had photos + English translation. There were also ‘sets’ already to make things easier. We picked a bbq set  of 4 meats (pick any – they have beef, pork and chicken in different marinades) and a set of seafood and vegetable soup.

You have to cook it all by yourself, but the staff are pretty attentive and we got plenty of help. This one was a sure winner. The barbecue tasted really good. The meat was tender, evenly sliced and the flavors just right. It also came with free fresh lettuce.

The soup was a bit slow cooking (our fault though coz we picked to eat bbq and soup at the same time so the pot was small), but it was easily remedied coz when we finished cooking the barbecue we asked for a bigger pot and it was replaced at speed. The soup was really really good too.

The best thing however is the sauce. They serve two kinds, one hot chili and the other a secret concoction with sesame seeds. My friend really like the sauce and wanted to buy some but alas! they don’t sell it. Must really be their trade secret.

And the bill? The five of us were stuffed full, and we only paid $21+ which already included a big bottle of chilled distilled water. So that’s like $4.5+ per pax. This one is going to get my two thumbs up =) Value for money restaurant.

Just Another Thrifting Place in Phnom Penh

Posted by on Jan 4, 2011 in Cambodia, Living in Phnom Penh, Shopping in Phnom Penh | 3 comments

A few days after Christmas, I woke up really early and felt restless. I bugged Hi-ace then to drive me around. It was our usual ‘lets-drive-around-and-check-out-anything-interesting-along-the-way’ routine. Whenever we do this, we always stumble across something really nice, usually hole-in-the-corner shops or restaurants.

Sakura Japan Thrift Shop

We were cruising along St. 271 when I saw a huge banner and it says Christmas and New Year Sale – 30% off. The thrift hunter in me flashed green and I promptly told Hi-ace to make a stop. It was a bargain hunting place indeed!

Sakura Japan Thrift Shop

The shop’s (its more like a huge warehouse) name is Sakura Used Japanese Products. My interest was instantly piqued coz I love Japan Thrift Shop here in Phnom Penh. That’s one of our most frequent thrifting haunt with my Peluka Sisters.

Of course, I took a photo of what’s inside the shop. But I’ll be posting it on my Girl on a Thrift Hunt (G-O-T-H) blog. Was it a Gold Mine? Let me put it this way, they have lots of stuff, the place was literally spilling with goodies, but it was a bit pricey. I think they would do better to lower the price, after all those are used items. But they are still worth checking out, specially the home items.

Visit my GOTH blog for more thrift hunting blurbs.

Cheers for 2011!

Posted by on Dec 29, 2010 in Living in Phnom Penh, Random Thoughts | 2 comments

Oh, I miss blogging!! I’m just so sorry I haven’t been updating the site. It has been almost two weeks since I last posted. I was simply preoccupied with loads and loads of things to do. Hubby arrived, then it was Christmas and of course, the crazy mom in me just has to get busy. Cooking, shopping, wrapping pressies, partying.

Then afterwards, it was clean up time. I always have this compulsive thing to clean the house before new year. And when I was about to be done, I caught a really bad cold and now has been feeling really under the weather for the past two days. I’m thinking of not cooking for new year’s eve and just ordering take out food. Hubby says we should just eat out. Maybe we’ll just do that, I am in dire need of some rest and I don’t want to start the year sick.

I’ll blurb about our third Christmas here in Phnom Penh on my next post. But suffice it to say we had a quiet yet very happy Christmas. I just wish that were with my parents and brother during this time of the year.

I’m also hoping New Year’s Eve here in Phnom Penh would at least be a little more festive than last year. Phnom Penhois aren’t just into celebrating Christmas and New Year, as they prefer to celebrate the Chinese New Year and their own Khmer New Year in April.

Blogging, I think I would resume after New Year’s and I just wanna greet everyone a Happy New Year in advance. I can’t thank you enough, dear readers (I know, I don’t have a gazillion readers but I am really appreciative of the few I have…), you guys have made blogging all the more enjoyable. This has been a great year, and I hope the new year will bring in happy and squeal worthy tidings for all of us..

Happy New Year

I'm still Purple Obsessed. Obviously.

Image can be saved as wallpaper. Just click on it to load the 1600×1200 pixels file and right click, save image as. I also went Photoshop crazy this morning and I’ll be releasing a couple of 2011 Wallpapers for free and it’ll be available in my crafting blog – MyCraftingDen soon. Will blurb about it as soon as I’ve posted it.
