Yes, you all already know me, hubby and the kiddo are really just pizza eating machines pretending to be human. Lol. And a few Saturdays ago, we were just driving around when we thought of refueling out tummies with what else but pizza. So we headed over to Kampuchea Krom Blvd, thinking of just grabbing a pizza at Pizza Company. But parking there is like expecting to find a 100 dollar bill on a crowded sidewalk so we just drove on.

A few blocks after, my daughter screamed, ‘ I see PIZZA!!’. She was pointing at a resto called Naples Pizza. So of course, we had to go try it. And thank God we did. I think I have a new favorite pizza place here in Phnom Penh!

I like the huge variety of pizza’s you can choose from on their menu. They also have Greek, Canadian pizzas and lot and lots of other choices. But of course, we had to try out first the thin crust, sausage stuffed seafood pizza. And it was soooooo good.

I had iced coffee..

They also had free desserts (taro and tapioca pearls in sweet coconut milk) which was nice, though I forgot to take photos of that.

The service was also efficient and friendly. Prices are affordable, and they also have free pizza promotions during weekdays. Let’s just say, I’ll be going back there again soon to try the other pizzas. I do wish they’d have more branches closer to city center..

I had been craving this for awhile now and specially so since I’m on the diet right now. I LOVE Khmer salads, they are very easy to make and very very tasty. Cambodians have a really passionate love affair with vegetables and thankfully, I’ve learned to be passionate about my veggies too.

The Nyom Salad is very easy to make. Here’s what you would need:

Cabbage, sliced thinly.

Carrots, strips.

Cucumber, sliced thinly or in strips.

Fresh green been sprouts.

Tomatoes, sliced thinly.

Basil leaves (optional)

Peppermint leaves (optional)

Dried shrimps , soaked and chopped.

Flaked dried fish (optional)

Peanuts

As for the sauce, you just need lemon juice (or vinegar if you don’t have lemon), 1-2 cloves of garlic chopped finely, sugar, fish sauce. Mix the sauce together and when you’re ready to eat just drizzle it over the veggies and toss.

This is just perfect specially if you’re eating deep fried fish or grilled meat.

An entry for

And its not really that surprising, it has great location – riverside, extensive menu (Khmer, Thai, and western fares) and the place is spacious.

We love going there for Khmer food, and just to relax and take in the river breeze. Hubby and I both like Khmer and Thai food, while the kiddo prefers pastas and we get all of this in one place. We also love the ambiance, the attentive staff and of course, the food is yummy. Prices are mid-range.

Here’s what we had last time we went there. Khmer Seafood Ma-am Stew- I can’t get enough of this! Its sooo delicious and you’d need unlimited servings of rice with this one. They serve this with lots of veggies to tame the strong salty flavor.

We also had seafood glass noodles which was also great but my camera’s battery died on me so no photos of that..The kiddo as usual ordered her Pasta Bolognese with Garlic Bread. Yum. And the serving is huge.

I’m sooo looking forward to going back there again. Soon.

Were lucky our Khmer neighbors are foodies too. They love doing cook outs during weekends and inviting us too. Last week was really interesting coz they were making Banh Chao (Banh Xeo in Vietnamese). This is a Vietnamese dish of rice flour crepes with assorted fillings. Khmers have adopted this dish and their version is one of my favorite Cambodian foods.

Khmer version has some additions like shredded coconut, flaked crabs and more assortment of greens to be eaten with it. The sauce is also slightly more ‘peanut-y’.

I took some pics while they were cooking…They usually cook this over charcoal and it smells heavenly. And it was super yummy. And I ate more than three servings lol. They must think I haven’ t eaten for weeks but it was that good.

We love it and lately we’ve been so into Swensen’s Ice Cream cakes. It’s a whole new way to enjoy ice cream eh? But the added calories with those creams and toppings…Oh well. I always say, I’ll just exercise more. Heh.

Vanilla Brownies: vanilla ice cream on top of chiffon cake. Then topped with cream icing, chocolate shavings, cherries and brownie chunks. How’s that for sugar rush?

And oh, all their cakes have a ‘happy birthday’ thingie on top. But it was nobody’s birthday, we were just craving for some ice cream. Hehe..You gotta love how they pack their cakes. It includes ice on both sides of the cake box, then they give out free paper plates, plastic spoons, plastic cake cutter and candles. And since we had those free candles what else could we do but light it up and take turns blowing it out. Lol.

I have always been partial to Chinese cuisine. I could eat dimsum/noodles all day. And I’m not kidding you. Thankfully, Phnom Penh has its share of restaurants offering dimsum on their menus. We’ve tried out several places near Central Market and recently we have discovered another dimsum place near Olympic Market. I’ve been passing by this restaurant called DM Dimsum Restaurant for some months already but it was only last week that I got to try it out.

We attended the media screening for Puss in Boots at Legend Cinema in City Mall and afterwards, Sreisaat and I can’t quite make up our mind about where to grab our lunch. Then I remembered that this place was just a few minutes walk from City Mall so we tried it..

And had a yummy whale of a time. And no we did not go binge eating. Not really. Hahaha. {Defensive much!} But it was tempting. They serve unlimited rice!?#@

A few months back, Sreisaat and I went to this Vietnamese restaurant called Magnolia. In fact, I already featured one dish we ate there here on Food Trip Friday – a dish called Banh Chao. I was feeling lazy that time and I didn’t include the full review of the resto. Now that I’ve got a bit of time, here’s the rest of the photos of the resto and the rest of the meal.

Magnolia is housed on a lovely old French-Khmer villa along St. 51, Phnom Penh. They have some outdoor seating as well as some indoor seats. I kinda like the garden setting, it was breezy and the place evokes a very homey feeling and would encourage you to linger and enjoy the food.

We wanted a light meal so we ordered a salad – Beef Sesame Watercress Salad(I forgot what they named this on the menu..lol!). This was really yummy. And the serving was huge we couldn’t even finish it! The beef was really tender and the watercress so fresh and adding a crunch in each bite.

Our Banh Chao..

And of course, we just had to have iced coffee milk.

Hmm, we had some really healthy, value for money food. This is one affordable restaurant, the servings were really big and good enough to share for 2-4 persons, the casual ambiance and cheerful service an added plus.

Here’s from one of my favorite resto’s in Legazpi City, Philippines – Small Talk Cafe. I missed the food there so this was one of my stops with some friends during my two-week Pinas vacation.

I had Pasta Mayon. I know it looks like your ordinary lasagna dish but believe me this one is definitely unique. Ravioli pasta stuffed with creamy pinangat (laing leaves cooked with coconut cream) and topped with oh so yummy tuna sauce. I think ‘yummy’ and delicious would be an understatement for this dish.

I also wish I had more room for more food. But I just had heavy lunch and the pasta was the only thing I could accommodate. The Laing/Pinangat Pasta and the Bicol Express Pasta and Pili Pasta, Laing Pizza looked interesting too. I guess, I just have to make sure I’m really hungry when I go there again.

Small Talk cafe has a really cozy ambiance (think vintage-retro!) and features some totally unique food. A lot of the food in their menu are a must try. If you’re ever in Legazpi City, visit this place. Located in Albay District very near Divine Word College.

And oh, thanks Yese for the pics (which makes me think what a lousy blogger I make, I always seem to forget the cam whenever I need it LOL) and Khenn, thanks for the yummy treat ). Miss you guys and see sometime soon again.

It’s been awhile. But hey, I’m well, alive and blogging from Phnom Penh again. I did plan to update the site while I was in the Philippines but a busy schedule and a crazy slow internet connection made me…well, lazy. I reasoned I was on vacation so I might as well be on full vacation..

I had a really great time there even if the weather was really dark, rainy and moody. I met up and caught up with a lot of friends and also had a great time trying out Legazpi’s new restos. One of the places we tried was Sibid-Sibid Legazpi. We were with my mom’s bestfriend and since my daughter is crazy about seafood, this is the place she recommended we try. So I’m deviating a bit for my Food Trip Friday entry and featuring a ‘Filipino restaurant’ instead of Khmer food.

a miniature sibi-sibid. A wooden banca used by fishermen..

Sibid-Sibid Legazpi has native and traditional Filipino theme with bamboo and wood decor all around the resto. It reminded me much of bahay kubos . Their menu consisted mainly of traditional Filipino favorites like bulalo, sisig, bicol express and more seafoods.

FISH SISIG: i’ll be having some serious cravings with this one. It’s soooo crunchy and delicious. I had to stop myself from ordering a bottle of beer when I tasted this.

Mains were priced around P150-P190 per order but the servings were big. Enough for 3-4 persons. And the taste, sooooo deliciously good. We couldn’t help ourselves and bef

ore the meal was halfway, we were eating with our hands hahaha.. All in all, Sibid Sibid is a great place to dine with family and friends.
FRESH COCONUT: the perfect drink to go with it all..

My cousin gave birth recently and since we couldn’t be with them for the shower, we opted for some gifts delivery service.

I’ll be posting more stuff about our short Bicol trip and oh, after we got back to Phnom Penh two days ago, Hi-ace dragged us for a ‘drive’ which ended up with us exploring Kep and Kampot, Cambodia. I’ll be featuring picturesque Kampot photos soon.

I’ve been passing by this little restaurant called Boran, along St. 51 and I keep telling myself I wanna try the food there. The place looks homey, the food they offer looks home cooked and they are always packed full during lunch hours. So I figured they probably have good food. So Sreisaat and I went over there yesterday and my hunch was right on. Affordable (most items on the menu were priced below $3) and sooo yummy Khmer-Thai food. They also have unlimited rice servings.

I had Pad Thai. Love the big serving, how its arranged on the platter. You get to mix it yourself which is a great way to serve it coz say some don’t want bean sprouts or peanuts.. But I do love everything on my Pad Thai and this one exceeds expectations. I love the subtle flavor, its not too overwhelming. Just yummy. Were definitely going back to this place and try out their other offerings.

This ‘feature’ is long overdue. Sreisaat, the Queen of Wishful Shrinking and I actually went on this ‘Noodle House’ food trip a month or so ago. Lol. But life happened and I also forgot to download the photos from my camera. I should really just stick to using one camera for blogging coz I always forget where I stuck the photos.

Anyway, we were invited to a movie screening by the ever generous Legend Cinema Phnom Penh and afterwards we were starving. Yes, popcorns and cola weren’t enough for us. You know, we do have a big appetite hahaha.. So we checked out our Phnom Penh Drinking and Dining guidebooks and picked out The Noodle House. I guess we were in the mood for some noodle goodness. It’s located a few blocks down from the riverfront in a lovely old colonial house.

Love the simple decor, the really friendly service and the food. The drinks menu was really interesting too. Here’s what I had.

Fruit-Mint Shake – the exact name on the menu escapes me now but you can bet it was a really interesting name.

Vegetarian Steamed Buns

Yummyness and very very affordable too!
We had a long holiday this week here in Phnom Penh. The Khmers were celebrating Pchum Ben and most people took the time off and headed elsewhere for some R & R. We were actually planning on going to Battambang, but since my sister was going home to Manila via Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, we decided we’ll all tag along and spend a few days there. What did we do? Nothing much, walked about the city, did a bit of shopping{ really, Ho Chi Minh is a bargain shoppers haven, you’ll find everything in their markets apparel, even hospital scrubs sale, bags, home decor etc} and we also ate a lot. Hubby and I, are big fans of Vietnamese Pho Bo so we decided to eat Pho every night Lol.

The first night we went to our favorite Pho place – Pho2000. Here’s some drool worthy pics..

Hubby ordered a large bowl of Pho Bo {Beef Keuy Teuw Noodles} and I was seriously shocked at how huge the bowl was. I thought at first the waiter was bringing it over for us to wash our hands on, hahahaha. And Hi-ace was embarrassed he was the only one eating a huge bowl of noodles. Lol. But he did finish it all up!

Mine was a really delicious seafood Pho. Clams, squid, fish, prawns and lots of onions. I love the spiciness of this one. Definitely going to my favorite list.

Hubby tells me this is what they call a ‘poor man snack’ {it costs less than 3,500R < than $1} but I don’t care. Call me a poor girl now but I love this hahahaha..This is actually cooked and eaten the same way as my previously featured Banh Hoi Cold Noodles. The only difference is the noodles used – teeny weeny cuts of keuy teuw noodles. The noodle in this dish is also stir fried.

Toppings can vary depending on your taste. But the usual order has slice of pate, pork, taro rolls, mint and veggies. Then you drizzle the whole thing with sweet and sour sauce and top with ground peanuts. Super yum! And I can understand why hard laborers here prefer this for snack. It’s so filling! I’m usually burping halfway through it and I find it hard to finish. Lol. And oh, in case you’re wondering where to buy it…Food halls in the market. The haven for cheap, usually delicious Khmer food.

Yay! It’s Friday. Food Trip Friday time and its weekend! So what’s on the ‘blog table’?

This is a popular Vietnamese/Khmer dish called Banh Xeo. Khmers refer to it as Banh Chao but I personally called this Khmer pancakes. Lol. And its delicious. A must try. A few weeks ago a friend and I went to a food trip and decided on dining in at a Vietnamese-Khmer resto, Magnolia. We ordered Banh Chao and its was yummy. The serving was huge and very affordable too.

Banh Xeo/Banh Chao is made of rice flour crepes filled with ground pork, shrimps, and lots of bean sprouts. Its served with lettuce and whole smorgasbord of veggies. How is it eaten? Get your portion of the panacake, the fix your lettuce + veggies, then add in the pancake, wrap it with the lettuce, then dip on the sauce. And how does the Khmer version differ with the Vietnamese version? The sauce. Khmers love their pancake dipped in sweet-sour sauce with lots of ground peanuts.

Ground Beef, Herbs, Veggies and also a crazy amount of chili

And whooooooah! It was sooo hot and spicy, don’t ask me how many liters of cold tea I drank. Forgive the grainy photo of the La-ap I think I was already out of sorts because I already tasted the seafood salad and it was very spicy. But it also tasted sooo good.

Yay! I’m actually on time for Food Trip Friday. Hahaha! A milestone. The dish name sounds exotic, but really if you’re visiting Cambodia and you’re Asian but not used to too exotic food, this is one of your must try. Pinoys might be at home with this one. I think all Pinoys guests and friends of mine who have tried this loved it. Mainly because its like our very own tocino! Sans the ‘salitre’ lol. Bai Sai Chrouk literally means rice and pork.

Caramelized/marinated pork deep fried or grilled with steamed rice, topped with spring onions. Always served with tomatoes and slices of crunchy cucumber. Plus their usual serving of cucumber-radish-carrot-chili pickles. Some also serve it with egg omelet drizzled with sweet soy sauce. Yum! Super, I think this is my all-time favorite breakfast here. And it doesn’t hurt that its soooooo cheap. One huge serving with free hot or cold tea costs just 3000R-5000R around a $1. The one in the photo is from some eatery and costs just 3000 {around $0.75} and this left me burping the whole day.

I didn’t want to eat this coz I loooove the color too much. But hubby pointed out that nothing’s gonna happen if I don’t eat it and just stare at it and that he is already hungry. Heh. I just love how he deflates my crazy ‘balloon’of thoughts. See how well matched we are? I’m the dreamer, he’s the pragmatist. Lol. Anyway, back to my dragon fruit. I love this fruit to bits. In fact I did a post about this already – Feasting on the Dragon, but what I featured was the white variety.

This is actually my first time to try the red one. I dunno why but I always end up buying the white one. But last week, our neighbors went to Siem Reap and when they came back they brought lots of goodies. Fruits, mostly. No free cigars, unfortunately for my sis. Heh. They gave us a whole basket of sugar apple and red dragon fruit….

Yumminess! I love this super chilled.

Errr, I did just post a \’noodle\’ feature last Friday, but you know what I’m posting another one this time. Hahaha. I know I’m not so original but what can one’s tummy do when its craving for something hot, steamy? This is my usual fare when I go to Sovanna Mall’s food court. Mee {yellow noodles} in claypot, seafood flavor. I specially love this when its raining and the weather here has been just that dreary since last week.

This is definitely good old comfort food for me. And I love the herbs and mint they put in the pot. I feel like it just vanquishes the cold virus threatening me. And best of all, its so cheap. 6000 Riels {about $1.2} for one pot including several slices of garlic bread.

When you look at it, its not overly appetizing. But trust me, its really yummilicous! And healthy to boot. Made of Khmer nom ban chouk noodles, drizzled with sauce made from flaked fish and spices, then topped with veggies. As for veggies, you can take your pick on what to add. I prefer adding monggo sprouts, mint, lotus stem stalks, cucumber.. This has actually become one of my Khmer comfort foods.
