Wow! The 2008 Beijing Olympics was simply awesome. I guess it was a night of superlatives. Wish I was there and see everything live, but I just had to content myself with watching it on TV. Arguably the best of all opening ceremonies, it was a visual treat. Two thumbs up to China for treating us to a spectacular show.

A total of 14,000 performers took part in front of 91,000 spectators and a potential TV audience of billions. I think I pity the organizers for the next Olympics in 2012.

The ceremony was really colorful, imaginative and full of splendor. What I am really impressed with was the fusion of traditional art/culture with modern techniques in lighting, stage, production and the effect was astounding in its scale and beauty.

Here’s some photos of the opening ceremony..

Check out this video of some of the fireworks during the opening. I’m saying “some” coz the opening ceremony used about 30, 000 fireworks so this hardly covers it but is worth watching! Watch here.
