CoffeeCoffee is one my daily must-haves. I consider it a necessity :) and no matter where I am I need to have my caffeine fix every morning to get me going. Mercer, a US consulting firm has conducted a survey on which countries that would have you spend more of your precious $ for a cup of coffee.

This annual cost of living survey, which covers 143 cities across six continents and measures the relative cost of more than 200 items in each location, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment. The results are used to help government agencies and multinational companies determine compensation allowances when sending employees abroad.

Survey says, there are six cities in the world with more than $5 price tags just for a cup of coffee.

  • Moscow, Russia – $10.19
  • Paris, France – $6.77
  • Athens, Greece – $6.62
  • Beijing, China – $6.28
  • Berlin, Germany – $5.15
  • Tokyo, Japan – $5.04

Unbelievably pricey. The coffee that we take for granted at times can be luxury when we’re on those cities. Just imagine if I stay in Moscow for 5 days I would shell out $50+ for my daily cup!

But if you want to take relief from those high-prices and satisfy your caffeine cravings, South America and Africa is your best bet. At $2.03 per cup in Buenos Aires and $2.36 in Johannesburg, both continents offer relief to budget-conscious java seekers. New York is far from the most expensive, weighing in at a mere $3.75.
