Whenever I get the itch I usually turn our bedroom and living room tupsy turvy ;P meaning arrange it just to give it a different look but usually my husband would rearrange it and he keeps mumbling about good feng shui areas, positions etc. Hi-ace is Chinese and is a follower of feng shui teachings. I am Filipino and I am aware of feng shui and some practices (Philippines is certainly multi-cultural and we had been very influenced by Chinese in the country) but the extent of knowledge about this is superficial and I don’t have in depth know how of its practices and beliefs.
So I’ve been reading on it and researching alot so I’d at least be familiar with what is feng shui. What is feng shui? It’s such a simple question, a seemingly simple term yet it encompasses a wide body of knowledge that it is difficult to answer it. With this post I’ll be trying to explain what is feng shui.
Feng shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China. It’s a a body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and fortune for the people inhabiting the place.
The term “feng” means wind and “shui” means water. For Chinese, gentle wind and clear water have always been associated with good harvest and good health. Good feng shui means good livelihood and fortune while bad feng shui means hardship and misfortune.
Some of the basic aspects of feng shui are the theories of yin and yang, the five feng shui elements and some more. There are quite a few theories of feng shui and I think that should be another post. Feng shui also uses tools for analysis like the Compass and Ba-gua.
After some readings I’ve learned that there is no single school of thought with regards to feng shui. There are actually three categories, Traditional (Classical), Black Sect Tantric Buddhism and Intuitive/Modern. This would make another post, and I promise to write about this soon.
More and more people are using feng shui because it offers a variety of benefits to improve our lives.
- Feng shui for home is primarily to create a harmonious, healthy and happy home.
- Feng shui for Office and Business is known to be used by many business tycoons. It is used to attract good business and generally good fortune.
- Feng shui for Real Estate is used for selling and buying a new home. A lot of people buying homes are conscious if the property they are buying have good feng shui.
- Garden feng shui aims to bring balance and beauty into a garden. Good feng shui in a garden help attract nourishing, high quality energy to a home.
Some may be sceptical about the effectiveness about it but for me as long as it doesn’t harm anyone why not try it? My hubby is a feng shui believer and with the results I’m seeing, well he’s slowly turning me into a believer too.
And I’ll be posting some basic feng shui for home tips pretty soon so do check out this blog again..

I believe in feng shui, but for it to work effectively in your life, you need to first know about your Bazi. In Malaysia, we have 2 very well known feng shui masters – Lillian Too and Joey Yap. Check out http://www.wofs.com and http://www.joeyyap.com. Good thing you start the ball rolling on feng shui. Maybe I’ll write about it in my blog in future! : )
