I have a degree in business management. I used to work for a large telecom and I was once assigned in their business hub unit. This unit is tasked with generating sales lead for field sales officers as well as selling to corporate clients too. I was fairly good at it as I would meet the set targets but for some reason I did not like it.

This made me realize asales career is not for everyone. Most people could do it once given the proper training, there are some blessed few who are born sellers, and some who really cannot do it. I guess I belong to the first category, I was given proper training, I could make good sales but I wasn’t really ecstatic about it. Having no passion for it led me not to be motivated and before long I was so stressed out and I decided to quit.

I have no regrets though, I learned a lot from that stint. Dealing with customers, product presentation, doing telemarketing, etc.. It was an invaluable experience and at least now I know I am not really cut out for a sales career.

For those considering a career in sales, here’s my two cents worth: Try it out first and discover if you have the passion for it and if you’re happy with it, by all means equip yourself. Get regular trainings and develop yourself, I know, though me and sales didn’t really hit it off, it can still be a rewarding career for others who have the zeal for it.
