I haven’t opened my friendster account in months. Truth is, I found the novelty of social networking wearing off already but I still keep my facebook and friendster just to keep in touch with my family and friends in the Philippines. You’re probably aware that Pinoys are passionate about singing karaokes (hence magic sing is more coveted than the Ipod’s, or so I was told..), texting (were the texting capital of the world), with mediocre noon-time shows, of singing contests and Friendster!
Most of my family and friends have a Friendster account and though I much prefer Facebook, this keeps me from altogether abandoning my Friendster account. This is where I could keep in touch with them and have a look at the recent going-ons with the family. And I am guilty of bugging them to upload photos constantly so I’d be more updated.
Just recently, a cousin got married and I’ve been itching to see the wedding photos so I decided to check on Friendster if they have already uploaded it. Geez! Browsing through my friends profiles and photos can get really distracting and before I knew it I blew another two hours when I was intending to do some serious blog updating.
I suddenly felt aged when I was looking at photos of my nieces and nephews who I just remembered to be in diapers last time I saw them and now, they are in primary school and they have Friendster accounts! I got to see my high school friends, two of them recently married, some of them showing their kids in their profiles.
College bestfriends I seldom see now, but somehow I still feel connected to them as we constantly email, chat or we leave comments on our Friendster profiles. At least I get to see their kids, or where they are now and what they are doing.
I also chanced upon an officemate before in Smart, and I was really glad to see her looking so well. I still remember her being so obssesive with her weight before and was always looking for top diet pills. Her mindset was that she is so fat when in reality she is thin, so she always starved herself and would just eat candies during lunch. The last time I saw her she was reed thin and looks really dehydrated and I’m glad to see she’s now healthy.
I also have a good friend who makes it a daily habit to surf and search profiles in search for people she knows and she’s really good at it. She says if she gets paid doing that, well she’ll be rich by now. For now its keeping her sane coz just like me she’s living far away from home.

Social networking sites are a great way to still keep in touch with long lost friends. I still keep my FS account although I use Facebook and Multilpy now.
