PhotobucketI had to give this some thought since I am not strictly a disciplinarian parent nor am I a very lenient one. I try to be a balance of both. Our daughter has just turned five and I had her when I was just 23. My mom and dad says that was a young age for having a baby but nonetheless I was really prepared for her and enjoyed every moment of my pregnancy , when I gave birth and till now. I have moments of frustrations too but all those things are eclipsed by the joy I am discovering in being a parent.

After I gave birth I went back to work and after 3 months I decided to quit work and take care of my child myself. Yes, I had a yaya (I had to, I hate doing laundry :P ) to help me out but I prefer giving my daughter a bath, prepare her food myself and sleeping with her beside me.

From the time she was born till she was two years old, it was just me because my husband was out of the country and till now I am so amazed at how I was able to cope with things. Things could get really stressful specially when kids get sick but I feel so lucky to have my parents and siblings to lend me a helping hand when I needed it.

I like doing things with my daughter, taking walks, blowing bubbles, drawing, story time, going to arcades and doing some home-schooling. We bond a lot but I am strict with TV hours, healthy food, table manners, her manners towards elders, and hygiene while my husband is very particular about learning and school stuff. When I get angry its rare that I have to raise my voice or give her a spanking, she “gets it” with just a look.

When it comes to discipline, my husband and I talk about it beforehand. I think its a must that we complement each other and impose understandable and  not conflicting rules. She’s now beginning to understand rules particularly if it has been explained well.

Were are not sure if our parenting style is the right or wrong way but we hope and pray our daughter would turn out well.  For new parents like us, advices from our parents, insights from friends have helped us a lot along the way.

This is my first time to join the Pinoy Parenting Blog Carnival. The sixth edition is hosted by Guardian Angel.

I’m just sorry it took me awhile to join this but I’d like to commend Doc Joey for coming up with this thought-provoking meme.
