** Update 12/2009: Cebu Pacific to Fly Manila-Phnom Penh Spring 2010
**Update 9/29/09: Cambodia-Philippines signs air flight deal. Just click the link to read the post. At least now its official!
This news definitely is making my day. I was browsing the Phnom Penh Post (one of my daily morning rituals) and I was reading the article about the national airline (Cambodia Angkor Air), and a short include caught my attention. The article quoted Minister of Tourism Thong Khon and mentioned that,
“He added that direct flights to Manila on Philippine Airlines would start later this year following an agreement due to be signed Wednesday.”
Check out the entire article at the Phnom Penh Post.
Now, isn’t that a terrific news? We’ve been waiting for this for sometime since there has been rumors a few years back that the Philippine flag carrier as well as the budget airline Cebu Pacific has been applying for adding direct flights to the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. There is a sizeable Filipino community here in Cambodia and at the same time there are a lot of tourists here in Cambodia so hopefully this could also encourage them to include the Philippines in their iteneraries.
Before we used to come to Phnom Penh via Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong or Ho Chi Minh and the trip would usually take around a day to complete because of the stop overs and its such a hassle too especially if you’re traveling with kids so direct flights would really cut short the travel time plus a big savings on the airfare.
That means Manila will just be less than a four-hour trip away from Phnom Penh!!! Hubby is now kidding me that he bets I’ll probably be booking the first ever seat on the first-ever flight!
Can you blame me? I’m just too excited as it is..

good day, i came upon your blog here while looking for imformation about how to travel from phnom penh to bangkok. it would really help to hear tips from a fellow kababayan like how much and how long it would take. hehehe. and also, whats the weather like in cambodia around november? thanks a lot in advance
hi jeyo, thanks for dropping by.. around november its cool and starting to get dry though there are still occasional rain showers. Generally the best time to visit is December to Feb (cool and dry season) though I can see loads of tourists here anytime of the year.
If you travel by land Phnom Penh to Bangkok – it’ll take more or less 15 hours. If you want to go the easier way..(less scenic, though less chaotic route) – flying – there are flights operated by airlines like Bangkok Air, Thai Airways, Thai Air Asia – it’ll take around 1 hour.and they mostly have twice a day flights.
Check out this site – Canby Publications - for the latest information about traveling to Cambodia..
Hope you enjoy your trip…

hi! a friend will be traveling from pnh to palawan in march. any word on the direct flight to manila? otherwise, how would you suggest he make this trip? thanks for any help you might provide!
hello dale, thanks for hopping by. As of the moment I haven’t heard of any updates from both Cebu Pacific or PAL. I’ve posted about the most recent update here. The Cambodian Ministry of Tourism has recently announced that Cebu Pacific has plans to launch flights during the spring months of 2010 (Mar, Apr or May) though as of this time, no announcements has been made by the airline.
For now we just take these flights when whenever we need to go to Phil.
via Bangkok
- Bangkok Airways (Phnom Penh – BKK) then Philippine Airlines (BKK-MNL)
- Bangkok Airways (PNH-BKK) then Thai Airways (BKK-MNL) or other airlines flying BKK-MNL Route
- Thai Airways (PNH-BKK-MNL)
- Thai AirAsia (PNH-BKK), then Cebu Pacific (BKK-MNL)
via Kuala Lumpur
- Malaysian Airlines (PNH-KUL-MNL), their ASEAN Pass is really cheap. About $320 for 4 flights within SE Asia. But the transit time is a bit long.
- Air Asia (PNH-KUL Lcct Terminal) then Cebu Pacific (KUL Lcct Termina-MNL)
via Singapore
- JetStar Airways (PNH-SIN_MNL)
- JetStar Airways (PNH-SIN) then Cebu Pacific (SIN-MNL)
- SilkAir (PNH-SIN) then combined with airlines flying SIN-MNL
via Ho Chi Minh
- bus from Phnom Penh about $12 then Cebu Pacific or PAL from HCM
- Vietnam Airlines (PNH-HCM) then Cebu Pacific or PAL (HCM-MNL)
Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if Cebu signed the agreement with Cambodia. I have been looking at website but nothing. The spring month are now over and we are almost in august. If anyone could assist me.
Thank you
hi florana, as far as I know Philippines and Cambodia have already signed an agreement but the plans to start flights this year seems to have been shelved. I don’t really know the reasons why but we sure are hoping that it will start soonest. You can also check Phnom Penh Post online (business section) for any updates. Thanks
