Philippines: Favored by Korean’s as Travel Destination

A booster.. Something to revive our spirits..I wanted to post something positive and this is something of a good news. The Philippines has a lot of good things and I think we should all stop complaining and start working to build a better future for our children.. If other countries see something good here and even make it their favorite travel destination, then we must have something good going for us.

Ever noticed the influx of Koreans in the Philippines? The first thing I noticed about them are their really cute hairstyles, their very individualistic fashion sense, and their heels. Roam around Manila and you’ll see lots of Korean restaurants, stores selling Korean items particularly Makati area, and watch TV – you’ll get a lot of Koreanovelas airing.

We shouldn’t be surprised, recent surveys among Korean tourists indicate that the Philippines is the emerging favored travel and vacation destination.

Korea Travel Times conducted a survey to determine travel behavior and level of satisfaction among Korean tourists on a country-by-country basis. Korean tourists express a high degree of satisfaction with their Philippine travel experience, as evidenced by the 94 percent overall satisfaction rating the Philippines received in the survey.

Data from the Department of Tourism shows that last year, Korea accounted for about 18 percent of the total inbound traffic to the Philippines, making Koreans the second largest visitors to the country. According to Sec. Ace Durano of DOT, “Still, more Korean tourists are flocking to the Philippines, even posting an increase of 29.8 percent last January and 32.9 percent last February,”.

Natural unpolluted environment, reasonable travel expenses and marine sports top the list of features that Koreans find enticing in the Philippines, according to the survey. Weekend Travel, backpacking, business travel are also among the key reasons for traveling to the Philippines. Korean tourists’ most favored Philippine travel destination are:

Boracay(32 percent),

Cebu (29 percent) and

Manila (26 percent).

The survey also showed that most visitors to the Philippines are on family tours (29 percent) or honeymoon (16 percent). This indicates that the Philippines is now looming as a honeymoon destination for Korean newly-weds who used to pick Phuket, Thailand and Bali, Indonesia for that purpose.

Among the 3,431 respondents who have not yet traveled to the Philippines, 92 percent expressed willingness to visit the country, with 47 percent saying “very much” and 45 percent “fairly much.”

The number of Korean tourists jumped 29 percent from 2005 (488,402) to 2006 (631,793). The Philippine Department of Tourism expects to welcome at least one million tourists from Korea by 2010.

bronson, thanks for dropping by. I hope the Phil. government could do more to improve tourism. I mean we have more than 7000 islands to explore so we could be a prime tourist destination.

This past few years, Phil. has been like dropped from the tourist map when we could very well compete with the very best tourist places in the region. I hope something more could be done to put us back in every traveler’s list.

I’ve heard so much about Philippines, more on  negative feed backs.
People in the Philippines should look into the positive side of their country as others sees them.
I think it’s just fair to say that they are really blessed to have such breath-taking scenery others are envious of!
