Blogging as a Career Possibility

Posted by on Apr 24, 2008 | 14 comments

I’ve been browsing through Yahoo Education when I came across an article entitled 10 Great Careers You’ve Probably Never Heard of. The title piqued my interest so I read it and I was amazed that the author included bloggers in her list.

Indeed blogging has come a long way. A year ago I didn’t have any idea about what blogging is. Now, at least a handful of my acquaintances are aware of blogs. I remember when I started to blog last year and would tell other people, either I get blank stares, ignored or they think I’m simply muttering gibberish.

More and more people are now becoming aware of blogging and its a really attractive career option. I’m not yet into full-time blogging since I’m doing this as a hobby, but if I ever decide to go into it full-time, its a career I can be happy about and is challenging enough for me to keep working on.

Why is blogging getting really popular now?

Whatever age, nationality, gender, field of expertise you have, you can get your thoughts online and can have people from across the world read about them.

It’s easy to set up. There are a lot of free blog hosts around. You don’t need to rush around publishing houses just to get your work published. I think the trend nowadays would be reverse. I can see a lot of really well written blogs and if I am a publisher, I’d be running after those bloggers.

You can earn from blogging. I was really skeptical about it and it wasn’t till 2 months ago that I started monetizing my blog. Surprisingly, you can actually earn from ads, reviews etc. Just recently I have successfully transferred my earnings from my other blog to my Philippine bank account, so I can safely say earning through blogging is real.

More and more businesses and sites are now becoming aware of blogging as a medium of advertising, so blog reviews are now steadily gaining more followings. It’s now also increasingly recognized as a new and exciting medium of information distribution. So would be writers, journalists could easily use this tool to their advantage.

Bloggers blog for variety of reasons and if we have the passion for it then by all means, keep blogging! Who knows me might make a career out of it.

    Fren,

I’m actually giving this idea a deep thought. Ok naman ang blogging for me kahit na pasulpot sulpot lang minsan but i’m thinking of becoming more serious in the coming months.

It’s funny how popular blogging has become. We just started blogging recently and are surprised to see so many other, more surprising is the fact that we live in the heart of silicon valley, and have discovered many people are still completely unaware of the medium.

when my hubby left for saudi to work, my blog has been a venue for all my thoughts, at the same time, it became an online diary which my hubby (OFW) will visit at the end of his day…para din kaming nagkwekwentuhan…it really helps specially for pamilyang ofw like us na may time difference ang country.
