I’d like to use the term explosion. The Filipino Blog Explosion. I’ve been a member of entrecard for the past two months and I just realized that there are a lot of pinoy bloggers. Blissful Weddings, Joan Joyce, Prove Me Wrong, Malinesky are notably very popular on Entrecard. You’d be blind not to notice it
Even Singapore Entrepreneur TLE concluded that Philippines is the blog capital of the world.
I’ve been thinking how come there are so many Filipino blogs now coming out.. I am Filipino and there are several reason why I decided to blog and why a lot of my “kabayans” are now hooked into blogging.
- More and more Pinoys are now with internet connection. Healthy competition among service providers is to our advantage. I remember before internet was a a far reached idea for masses since we still needed to have telephone lines installed before we could be connected. Now with the advent of WIFI, broadband connections, its getting easier to be connected.
- The language facility. A big number of Pinoys are able to read, speak and write in the English language. Makes it easier to express ourselves
- Filipinos are very sociable (imagine how many Pinoys have Friendster accounts
).I think it comes naturally for us to blog hop, tag, and socialize with other bloggers.
- We do have a lot to say.. Pinoys are very expressive, emotional and sensitive. We value our families a lot, and I can see a lot of family oriented sites among Filipino blogs.
- We have a lot of “kababayan’s” abroad. It’s one way of being updated and sharing our experiences to our families back home.
- Earning a little extra. Gary of Everything and Everywhere Travel Blog has this observation, ” working online is basically the same thing as working overseas, without the overseas part. You can have an international audience, earn US dollars, take advantage of technical training, and do it all under the radar of local officials and not have to leave your family.”
I’ve stumbled upon very interesting sites like Hulag, Quezon, Yugatech, Makoy’s Blog, Mapiles, Byahilo, Pinoy Bloggero.. The list is endless and I’m proud to say we’re producing a good number of quality blogs. Entrepinoys is one blog I won’t miss out mentioning.. The first site I signed up for an email subscription
Get ideas on business startups, franchising and other business opportunities from this site.
There is a whole myriad of topics covered by Pinoy blogs, , travel, photo, even about lotto!
Oh and another blog I never miss visiting – Toe’s Kurokuroatbp. It’s wonderfully amusing, informative, very interactive – Toe generates a lot of comments for each of her post
, addictive and overall a fantastic read. Check it out, its worth a visit.

BLOGGING: The Filipino Connection…
I’m seeing more and more Filipino bloggers and for a small country Philippines is well represented on the online community. Several reasons why there is a Filipino blog explosion…..
ibang klase ang PINOY – multi-faceted! blogging is a growing movement (iam not sure if i’m politically correct) and hopefully with the increasing number of Pinoy bloggers, we could show the world how great Pinoys are.
Great post! keep it up!
It’s amazing how Filipinos adapt to new things really. Remember text messaging when it came out and became mainstream, pinoys were churning out those messages like there’s no tomorrow!
mabuhay ang mga pinoy blogger!
manilenya
Maline, I agree with you! I think it stems from us being multi-cultural. Hope to see more pinoy bloggers joining us..
Maria, yep a lot of Pinoys are really undaunted by new technology. hehe. we make good programmers etc eh were good at finding ways and means..
Manilenya, Cheers!
Thanks for reading my post.
Thanks for visiting.
Yes I get many Filipinos visiting my blog via Entrecard. Like South Africa where I live, at long last local bloggers are growing daily.
jackie, hope to see more south african’s too on the net.. cheers!
Sometimes, I think that I know a lot of Filipino bloggers. Then, I realize there are so many. It’s probably in our blood… we’re very sociable and chatty and we love to share our lives. Thanks for including me here Pinayws!
I really appreciate it.
Yes you are right, indeed there is a blog explosion sa atin. And we could expect more young and old Filipinos to be part of this soon. Have a nice day!
hi! got here through entrecard.
ang dami nga talagang pinoy bloggers and i agree with the reasons you’ve put down for the phenomenon.
i’ve just started being an active blogger myself, and i’ve already met so many people on-line! masaya mag-exchange ng chika sa mga kabayan from all over the world.
dr_clairebear, its really fun meeting different pinoys. and since we can be found in practically all places in the world, the experiences shared are really interesting.
thanks for hopping by..
gusto ko naman na tagalog yung ipopost ko,hirap naman kasing mag english!hehehe^_^
bago mo pa maisulat yung gusto mong sabhin, kailangan mo muna eenglish…hmpf!
Hi, pinayws! I think you captured precisely the reasons why many Filipinos are now into blogging — faster Internet connections, facility with the English language, sociability, Pinoy expressiveness, a lot of Pinoy relatives abroad, the desire to earn on the side.
For a few people like myself, I’d like to add one more factor why we start blogs and that is to run campaigns. In my case, that campaign is to help save the Bonifacio Monument (also known simply as the Monumento) in Caloocan City from desecration and have it included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites. However, in a few months’ time, I believe that my blog has matured a little and I already have posts about education, which has been one of my long-time advocacies, and consumerism. But I guess participating in campaigns, if only by blogging about them, such as Earth Hour 2009 which is about three hours away, will never end.
I hope you and your readers can support our online petition about the Monumento.
All of God’s best for you, your husband and your little girl!
