Dietary supplements are getting really popular now. Before the term was just used for vitamins and minerals, but now it also includes herbs, fish oils, amino acids, hormones and much more.
I guess with the way people live now, stress levels are so high coupled with a not-so healthy, fat and fast food induced diets, we are all scared to get sick. Hence our fixation on vitamins and natural remedies. Medical costs are rising so I’ve observed more and more people getting concerned about prevention and self-care.
The media frenzy too has added to the hoopla about dietary supplements. Creative marketing has also made these supplements more appealing to a wider segment of the market. Just for example for vegetable haters, there are now Ampalaya, Malunggay, Brocolli in capsules or in tea which promises to provide the nutrient sans the bitter taste.
Taking dietary supplements is fine as long as you have first consulted a physician and take just the necessary dose.My parents for instance have been taking supplements but with their doctor’s consent and monitoring. These are a bit pricey too so we are always on the lookout for discount supplements. Health stores often offer membership cards and you can get a hefty discount if you have a card. It’s a good idea to get a regular buyer card if you intend to purchase supplements regularly.
