Okay, so Hi-ace thinks he has come up with a blogging topic for the day for me. I’m not in a very good mood so I just asked him, I mean growled (hehehe), “What?”
He has his usual teasing expression so I guessed I wouldn’t like what I would hear. “Why don’t your write about how you BAWLED out last Sunday?”
I know that’s supposed to rile and bait me! Why do I even bother? Ok. Come to think of it, it’s not really embarassing. It was just completely out of character for me..
So last Sunday (I’m sure most Pinoys were glued to their TV sets) was Manny Paquiao and Miguel Cotto’s boxing match. I’m not that much into boxing but Hi-ace was watching so I watched too. Found the other matches kinda boring, well I don’t know them but I did watch the fight before Paquiao and Cotto because I think what’s-his-name Chavez was cute.
Hi-ace kept giving me dagger looks coz I kept squealing every time he lands a punch and I kept going, “OMG, that Chavez guy is handsome!”, “He’s hot!” Blah blah.. Ha ha ha I must admit, I kept saying that just to vex my husband. I guess it was working coz he started cheering for Chavez’ opponenet. Good thing the guy I was cheering on won.. and I was like, “In your face, Hi-ace!” (See why I love him? I always win
).
Anyway, it was time for the main event, Pacquiao vs. Cotto. Of course, Cotto was like the underdog and Pacquiao the crowd favorite. I really should cheer for Manny Pacquio, of course, he’s Pinoy and I’m proud of that and not just that, he is really good at what he does. But Hi-ace says he was cheering for Pacquiao and besides, “Cotto is much more goodlooking so you cheer for him”, so I should settle for cheering for him. (Sometimes he could really be annoying!!)
The match started with that short video of boxing greats, then entered Pacquiao with his entourage (with Eye of the Tiger as background music — i find this is song too cliche so I stuck my fingers on my ears) then Cotto (love his hooded jacket!).
Next came the national anthems. The Philippine national anthem was sung by La Diva. I found it really good, though I know some people would raise the roof because of some changes in the rendition. But for some reason hearing our national anthem just made me cry, all right (Hi-ace is poking me! Why is he even reading what I type in here?) I totally bawled out! There something about hearing our national anthem that just made me miss the Philippines so much. Before it just gives me goose bumps but last Sunday I was really crying. Perhaps because it’s the first time I heard it being sang while I was down with too much homesickness?
Whatever it is I don’t really know. But I just can’t help but weep. Of course, Hi-ace was staring at me now like I was an alien, and then I was having hiccups. “What’s wrong? You don’t want to cheer for Cotto?”, he’s asking me now. Wahhhh! How could a guy be so clueless? I didn’t feel like enlightening him (what with my sobs and hiccups..) but I did tell him, “I mmisss home, you know! and that just made me realize just how much I miss Pinas.” I think, he got it, coz he hugged me and told me its ok.
Then, the ring announcer was now (forgot his name..) saying his usual lines, “Let’s get ready to ruuuuumble..” ( I love these lines and I don’t think anyone could say it better). I even have a cousin who have a huge crush on the ring announcer and that’s her sole reason for watching any boxing match. Oopps, where was I?
Anyway, I ended up cheering for Pacquiao, I can’t help it you know. He was good. But the compassionate me (haha!) felt really bad at seeing Cotto’s face all bloody and his shorts almost pink with blood. That’s one reason I hate watching boxing, I get to see bloodied faces. I mean I’m sure they go there knowing it will come to that but it doesn’t make it less gruesome for me.
I heaved a sign of relief that Pacquio won. He should, he was awesome. But I can’t really shake the feeling of total homesickness. The whole day I was really listless.. Good thing I checked my facebook and somebody posted a photo, which made my day. Really..Let me just repost..
Hahaha! I love Twilight and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).. I’m not sure how’d he feel about this though..
