FTFBadge

I missed FTF much. Not that I did not eat, but my mind was simply preoccupied the past weeks. But now that I’m back in business (hehe!) then I’m also back to posting food I gobble up or food I attempt to cook. Eating has brought me great comforts now that I’m soo down, it somehow makes me feel better, the same way buying new moissanite earrings makes me feel. I know its not a really good thing to binge and if only the weighing scale could talk.. but do allow me a few indulgences, ok?

Here’s one of the things I really love eating here in Phnom Penh, at least when I’m craving for something Western or Italian. We love ordering from..Sarpinos! And my usual pick? Baked Macaroni + a loaf of Parmesan topped Garlic Bread. I also love their round cheese bread with dipping sauce, but alas when I last ordered, it was not available hence the lack of photo..

Khmer Street Food: Nom Chearn

Posted by on Apr 6, 2011 in Cambodia, Food and Cuisine, Living in Phnom Penh, Travel | 1 comment

I miss posting about Khmer street food! Perhaps I’ve grown too accustomed to street food here. Living in Phnom Penh have made it just second nature for me to gobble these up and not think I just ate something unusual and worth blogging about. It was only when I was checking my site stats that I realized some people search about Cambodian street foods! And Cambodian’s do have a lot of yummy street delights.

Here’s one of my favorites Fried Cakes or Nom Chearn. I always get this when I go to Boeung Keng Kang Market. It’s also available in most wet markets. You can find side walk sellers near the entrance of markets and selling these. Its usually available in the morning and afternoon. How much? A few hundred Riels.

Nom means cake. It can also refer to biscuits, rice cakes, bread etc. They just add some words to make it specific. But one thing to take note, when the word nom is included in a phrase, they are most probably talking about something edible and with flour. This type is also made specific by adding the word ‘chearn’ ie. nom chearn with ‘chearn’ meaning fried.

Anyway, after tasting a whole lot of them, I think these two are my favorite:

Nom Cherong Chrouk – what’s in it? flour, turnips and peanuts. Crunchy on the outside yet yummy soft inside.

Nom Krouch – flour, sesame seeds and green beans inside. Love the chewiness of this!

I’ll be serving up more ‘Khmer street food‘ posts soon..

* Note that all Khmer ‘translations’ are just sound approximations..

Cambodia Snapshots: The French Library

cambodia snapshots

My first Cambodia Snapshot feature:

French Library, Royal University of Phnom Penh IFL

This is one of my favorite buildings here in Phnom Penh. The French Library @ Royal University of Phnom Penh..

There are times, words aren’t enough. Things, places, scenes, feelings are better conveyed with photos. This is the main reason I’m starting this category. Cambodia is a place that defies description, so I’ll let some photos do the talking for me. Afterall, I’m actually ‘shutter-crazed’ and I would normally shoot photos of everything and anything till I didn’t realize I have amassed quite a sizeable Cambodia photos collection. Not award winning, awesome shots but just your regular, everyday photos.

This is also inspired by Sreisaat’s Inside Cambodia. Check out her awesome blog for everyday photos of life in the Kingdom of Wonder. We had been talking about how to be consistent in our blog postings and what better way to train ourselves but to try to post on a regular schedule.

Although, I’ll limit my Cambodia Snapshots postings to weekends. Expect regular snapshot postings every Saturday and Sunday. All shots will be about Cambodia of course.

Food Trip Friday 44: Grilled Yummies

Posted by on Mar 25, 2011 in Food Trip Friday | 11 comments

You know I could greatly understand the sentiments of my friends who tell me I need to take OxyElite Pro so my weight loss project would succeed. But I’m not about to follow that, Lol! I’m still on diet but there are one or two days in a month where I really can’t stop myself from binge eating.

Like Saturday, ok blame it to hormones or PMS (right, MissusDilis? the girl with PMS-Guided blog hehe) but I was craving strongly for something salty, hot and grilled. So, I set out early to market. Bought half a kilo of lean meat 8,000 Riels ($2), half kilo of prawns 7500 Riels (>$2) and also two red tilapia fish about 1.5 kg for 11000 R ($2.75).

When I got home seasoned it with salt, lots and lots of black Kampot pepper. Then grilled it. I also made a soy sauce, kalamansi, chopped tomatoes  sauce to go with it. So yummmy. I ate one plateful of rice!

And just so you know, I’m was not alone in eating all that, there were 4 of us. Hahaha, defensive daw oh.

Food Trip Friday #42: Not Your Usual Pizza + More

Posted by on Mar 11, 2011 in Cambodia, Cambodia Restaurants, Food and Cuisine, Food Trip Friday, Places | 22 comments

I guess swimming non-stop for a few hours can make one go really hungry.  This was last Saturday’s snack. I wasn’t really planning on eating a snack since we were supposed to have a shark’s fin soup dinner later on but the Kiddo wanted a hamburger and my tummy was growling too.

So we walked to resto’s lining Tola St. in Sihanoukville and settled on Happy Herbs Pizza. I wanted to try the SHV counterpart, Phnom Penhites are familiar with the Happy Herbs Pizza Phnom Penh, I’m sure. I like the pizza here, they have big servings and lots of choices. This time we tried out Happy Herbs Pizza Sihanoukville and ordered their ‘Happy Chef Pizza’  coz I didn’t want any meat or much toppings. Medium size was big, actually good enough for 3 I think, but hubby and I ate it by our lonesome. Burp!

Kiddo was quite happy with her meal too. Chicken Burger and Fries + Creamy Chocolate Shake.
