Most recently, my wife and I were stranded in Abu Dhabi when AirAsiaX announced they were canceling service to/from Abu Dhabi in January this year. They didn’t notify us (their stranded passengers), until Feb 10th. Neither did they offer any accommodation nor answer our emails asking for help. We had to get back to Malaysia on our own. They won’t reimburse our additional expenses either.
They said they would refund the Abu Dhabi/Kuala Lumpur portion of our trip, but it will take them 30-50 days to process the refund. Such an attitude!
Watch out for these guys. If you are considering using AirAsiaX, It might be a good idea to develop a plan B… just in case.
paulk,
that’s was a very unfortunate experience. yes i do agree that when booking flights particularly from budget airlines, you are taking some risks. though the price is really the deciding factor when choosing these airlines.
I only use AirAsia myself for short hops and mostly using KL, BKK and Indonesia hubs. I do avoid it for long haul flights because I’ve heard horrors about their cancelled flights as well as the nonchalance of their customer service..
Lui,
I agree… use AirAsia for short hops only. I don’t think It’s wise to go anywhere with them unless you could link to a train or bus to get home if AirAsia cancels your flight.
It’s too expensive to buy last minute plane tickets from any legacy airline.
Paul,
Whenever I take a budget airline I make sure I have a plan B or extra money just in case. And I usually take it only on destinations that I am familiar with just in case I need to stay for a day or two if flights are canceled.
I do hope they would refund your canceled flights sooner than what you’ve mentioned.
Thanks for dropping by and commenting.
