With oil and all prices reaching sky high nowadays I think its already a necessity for me and most people to look for bargains and cheaper fares when we travel. The internet is now offering a lot of facilities for us to avail of discount airfares, convenient and faster bookings.

There are several advantages in using travel search sites. This sites search all other websites for cheap tickets and this save you a lot of time since you don’t have to log in to a handful of airline sites just to get the best deals. • Plan ahead. The more time you have, the more time you have to shop around for the lowest fares and getting the best deals. Book early to take advantage of cheaper fares. Most airlines give lower rates to those who book 1-6 weeks early and a month for international flights.

• Flexibility is another key in finding the cheapest tickets. Travel during weekdays (Tuesdays to Thursdays are the best), adjusting your arrival and departure dates and time (tip: mid-morning and mid-night departures offer huge ticket differences) and flying in and out of a different airport yields big price cuts and may be worth it.

• Subscribe to news alerts from travel sites / airlines so you’ll be notified and informed if they have new deals and when they are running introductory specials.

Once you find the price and the fare deals you are looking for and you are all set to book, keep the following in mind before making the purchase:

• If you are paying using credit cards, make sure the site has secure server. If you are not comfortable with this, check for other payment methods or contact the site administrator.

• Get e-tickets if the site offers that option. This is the best option if are unsure if you can receive shipment and it saves you shipping costs.

• Check if the tickets are refundable, transferable or changeable and if it is find out if they have additional charges.

• Check the price inclusions. Some does not include travel taxes etc.

• When booking make sure you specify if you need special assistance requests, equipments, meals etc.
